Painter Photographs . . . In the Sixties

Here are some photos taken from the slides that Helen had. Please feel free to make comments regarding when they were taken and who the people are in the photos. I think some were taken at Mary’s wedding and some at Thanksgiving sometime in the sixties.

Hi again! Helen’s second son here and I am happy to give some clarifications… These slides would date to 1971 or possibly early 1972 because the infant would be my older brother Lester who was born in September of 1971, and I could not even guess what the occasion was (I wasn’t in the picture until 1974).

Cast of characters seems to be (top picture to bottom picture, left to right)

    1) Grandma Marion, Carol Painter Erickson, and the shady character on the right was probably my mom Helen Painter based on her shirt compared to later pictures

2)???, possibly my Uncle Dick, hippy Uncle Ned and moustachioed Uncle Dan

3)Jerry Erickson (?) and Carol Painter Erickson

4)Jim Watson Dick (?) Dan Painter Bob Painter Grandma Marion (don’t know who the man is at her left shoulder) Carol Painter Jerry Erickson (?) Ned Painter Grandpa Preston

5 & 6)Jim Watson Grandma Marion baby Lester Watson Grandpa Preston and Helen Painter

7)I think Mary Painter is in the yellow shirt (I never knew her with long hair) but she is the only person I can even guess at on this picture

8)unknown man Ruth Painter (?) Cathy Painter Grandma Marion Grandpa Preston Mary Painter Aunt Helen (?…My mother’s namesake) this picture is probably older than the other pictures and based on grandma’s hair (I am not entirely confident this is Marion)

9&10) Preston Marion and bride Mary

I have probably gotten several people wrong because a lot of these are educated guesses and also I will probably be embarrassed to find out that I failed to identify some folks I have known in my lifetime so apologies in advance

Thank you so much for your comments.
I remember your mom very well . . . when she was little and we would ride around Hot Springs, SD, with Bessie, your mom loved to point to cars and tall me if they were a “Clean Car!” . . . or “Dorty Car!” I loved it when she pronounced “dirty” . . . “DORTY!” Such fun. ~ Charlie

Thanks, Mike – I’m hoping some of the Painter family will add names. If not, I’ll take a shot at it.
