Dan Painter went to Lead High School in South Dakota. He had never wrestled before, but he went out for the team anyway. As a junior in high school, Dan won the South Dakota state high school heavyweight wrestling championship in 1963. He was runner-up as a senior in 1964. Dan always seemed to be the teammate who won at the end – and was definitely a fan favorite. We remember Dan – he was strong as an ox!
