The Queen City Mail printed the full membership of the Roubaix Rangers 4-H Club in a boxed list — forty-eight names, one to a line, with the leader and adult assistants set out first. Carol Painter is on the list, three years before her election as senior staff secretary. So are her parents, Preston and Mrs. Preston Painter, both serving as assistant leaders, together with Dan Painter and three of Carol’s siblings: Ned, Ruth, and Dick.

In the weekly bowling column of the Deadwood Pioneer-Times, Carol Painter was named to both individual honors in the Gold Crown Girl’s Prep League. She recorded the high individual series with games of 69, 136, and 95 for a total of 300, and the high individual game with her 136. No other bowler in the league posted a higher mark that week.

 

 

 

Carol Painter Among Winners at the Lead Science Fair

An estimated 1,300 parents and school patrons attended the fourth annual Lead Public School Science Fair, held Tuesday night in the Lead City Armory. Nearly 300 projects were on exhibit, and the judges felt the work was of much higher caliber than in previous years. Forty junior and senior high projects made by individual students were chosen to enter the Western South Dakota Science Fair at the School of Mines in Rapid City on March 30.

Carol Painter was among the junior high winners named in the article, and she appears in the accompanying school photograph of the winners. The group she was listed with included Donna Dornbush, Janice Koskela, Karen Sanito, Barbara Morcom, Pam Mattson, and Cathie Caropino.

One winner from the Rapid City fair would be named grand winner and awarded an all-expense-paid trip to the National Science Fair in San Francisco in May. Ten other prizes were also to be awarded, and each student whose work qualified for the Western South Dakota Fair would receive a certificate of participation.
