Dan was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In that faith, a “sealing” is a temple ordinance believed to bind family members to one another permanently — not only for this life, but beyond it.

Where most religious ceremonies join a husband and wife until death, a sealing is understood to join them, and their children, for eternity.

Children born after their parents have been sealed are considered already included in that bond; those born before it, or whose circumstances did not otherwise allow for it, may be sealed to their parents later in a separate temple ceremony.

That is what took place here. On June 29, 2006, at the Logan Temple in Logan, Utah, Daniel Preston Painter was sealed to his parents, surrounded by his wife, children, brothers, sisters, and their families.

Daniel Preston Painter passed away four months and eight days later, on November 5, 2006.
