Was missing my grandmother this morning and am so pleased to find this is still here.

I loved the Beverly Hillbillies when I was small so I called her “Granny” which I am told tickled her (my other grandmother was not known for her sense of humor and apparently I innately knew not to call her that. Marion bore absolutely no resemblance to the Granny on tv so I can’t account for why I did that )

Once when I was a toddler and she was visiting she observed me smashing glass Pepsi bottles together (wow this really dates me) and enjoying the chaos it created. My mom spoke to me sternly and Grandma said something like “If you want that little boy to stop doing that you are going to have to give him a good hard spanking” so she did and I am it worked.

While I appreciate those stories that were told to me I don’t actually remember them. My favorite memory of her was that one time when I was about four and was spending a lot of time at her ranch she and I were the last to leave for church but her car broke down a couple miles from the ranch so we had to walk back to her little white house with the green trimming and we held hands and chatted. She taught me about the relationship between distance and perspective because we measured how close we were getting by holding our arms up to compare when I my hand stopped appearing to be taller than the windmill on her patio. Being from such a big family this is one of the few times I remember getting to spend time with just me and her alone.

Thank you for putting this together!

I suppose you know the story about “Bad Man’s Butter.!” That’s a classic. If you don’t know it, let me know and I’ll tell it to you. You could even call me sometime if you want . . . . . 630-728-5785
      I’ve got lots of stories.
